Melbourne
to Mt.Hotham Return Flight
VFR/RNAV
You've just got your Private Pilot
license and you're looking for an adventure, so you decide to do some sight
seeing in The Australian Alps. You know that Mt.Hotham is the highest altitude
point in Australia and you are ready to challenge yourself. So you prepare a
flight plan, hop in a Piper PA-28 and ask a friend to join you.

Pre-flight:

Check the aircraft and your fuel.

Pick an Assigned altitude and
cruising speed for the flight ( not too low, there are mountains everywhere)

Check through your NDB and VOR
charts.

Listen to the ATIS

Paste your Flight Plan in the chat

Get your clearance

The flight begins at Melbourne
Airport taking off to the east - check ATIS for current active runway

After taking off climb to
assigned altitude and track Eildon Weir VOR
-
Once you pass Eildon Weir VOR
track Mt. Livingstone NDB

Along the way don't forgot to
look at the beautiful terrain!

When you have reached
Mt Livingstone back track the VOR on the 286 Radial to line up for the threshold of runway 29 Mt.Hotham

Land at runway 29
and taxi to gate.

Welcome to Mount Hotham

Refuel if necessary Check ATIS
-
Taxi back to runway 29 and get
your take off clearance

Take off runway, climb to
assigned altitude and track Eildon Weir VOR
-
Begin descent and turn left 180
onto base for runway 27 at Melbourne
-
When ready for finals turn right
and track 270 for a visual approach
