The 150mm fire service for Swinburne TAFE Stud Road Campus in Knox burst under Stud Road, causing damage to this major road and forcing the closure of the inside lane.
Further complicating the job was the presence of Melbourne's main high pressure gas supply line running over the top of this pipe. Excavation would normally have been very costly, due to requirements of any works carried out near this sensitive gas asset.
However, this problem was overcome very quickly as the asset owners of the gas main had complete confidence in the excavation method offered by Total Fire & Water using its Non-destructive Excavator.
Two excavators were used to complete this repair within one shift to minimise road traffic disruption on this major road arterial. The repair was completed without incident and the road reinstated the following day. |
