National Freight

National Freight run a railyard at the docklands that transfer the national rail system to road transport.

The yard has high traffic throughout the day with trucks and freight trains manoeuvring in and out of the yard. The yard was shut down when a hole appeared in the ground between rail tracks adjacent to truck weighbridges. This effectively prevented trucks entering and trains moving as the hole was increasing in size and the rail tracks were undermined.

Production loss, schedules and the ripple effect of this shutdown represented potentially enormous costs over wide range of industries.

Total Fire & Water were called in around 4pm. We located non ferrous fire main and isolation valves throughout the complex with advanced sonar and acoustic equipment.

We activated a repair team and worked through the night, repairing burst and reinstating tarmac with aircraft quality road base and bitumen. This was required due to container cranes and forklifts weighing over 50 tonnes. Works were completed by 7am for the morning shift to start at the normal time.

Management were astounded after heading home the previous night with major concerns, and returning in the morning to find their problems completely resolved.
